Earlier this year, in partnership with the Law Society Gazette, we hosted a roundtable discussion, at Chancery Lane, London to talk about the subject of ‘LASPO 10 years on’.

This was a very important event for us as it is highlights the need for “access to justice”, which has been declining since the LASPO Act was introduced. We have a series of videos from the day itself which can be watched by clicking here.

We invited a number of specialists, including claimant and defence specialist solicitors, to discuss the points highlighted below:

- Assessing the impact on access to justice
- Restitution, compensation and the discount rate
- Costs and case management – fixed recoverable
costs, QOCS and expert evidence
- Changes to the CPR
- The ‘business’ of personal injury practices – the
position of claimant and defendant firms
- Future reforms

The panel included:

Anne Kavanagh, Irwin Mitchell
Richard Geraghty, Irwin Mitchell
David Haynes, ARAG
Emily Formby KC, vice president of PIBA
Suzanne Trask, Bolt Burdon Kemp
Nicola Critchley, FOIL
Richard Miller, The Law Society Gazette
John Hyde, The Law Society Gazette
Paul Rumley, SCIL
Vinod Kathuria, TULA Medical Experts
Beth Heath Lanyon, Bowdler
Sharon Allison, Ashtons/SCIL

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who came along and took part in this vitally important discussion.
